LTO and DOTr to require vehicle inspections

This year, old public and private vehicles may soon be required to undergo mandatory vehicle inspections

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in coorpation with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), will soon is require testing of old motor vehicles for road worthiness. The tests will be performed on both public and private vehicles to ensure safety during travel.

Bidding to procure 26 mobile Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) will be placed by the PITC (Philippine International Trading Corporation) & DOTr, with the hope of procuring the machines by the first quarter of 2018. They will be deployed simultaneously nationwide. They seek to test vehicles for public transportation with engines that are at least 15 years old. These vehicles will be required to undergo testing and will only be allowed on public roads as long as they pass the mechanical inspection. Vehicles that pass inspections will be subject to periodic testing every six months to ensure road worthiness and safety of the riding public.
